We currently have a black lab who will be 2 years old next month and he has intense seperation anxiety. He is an extremely smart dog and very loving, but he is very hyper when ever someone visits. So far we have tried:
- just leaving him in the house loose - he chewed anything and everything he could find everytime he was left alone
- kenneling him - he cries constantly and bangs around really bad trying to get out, and has huge puddles of drool on and all around him
- doggy day care - when I picked him up after the first day his nose was swelled severly from him trying to dig and root out of the kennel (even though he was side by side with many dogs and was let out periodcally to play)
- leaving him in the garage loose - he broke out through two seperate windows on two seperate occasions, leaving him running loose outside bleeding and with glass everywhere
- built an outside fence - he will dig himself out if he's left out there too long
- getting another puppy - we got a golden retriever puppy a couple months ago so he would never alone...well this didn't help either, he just broke out the glass window again
We are at a loss of what to do with him now...the only thing we can think of, is that he needs someone to be home with him constantly...and we can't harldy quit our jobs to stay home with him. He is our baby and we would do anything for him, but I just don't know what else can be done. Is the only option giving him up for adoption to someone who can be with him all the time? The last thing I want to do is give him away, I just don't want to see him hurt himself anymore. Any advice anyone has would be great, his case is pretty severe.
Thank you! :)
